While I believe the best and deepest knowledge can only be sought inside yourself, I am often inspired by the words of others that resonate with that inside. There are some fairly well-known books that I’ve read after I started my Dahn Yoga practice that not only touched me inside, but validated and resonated with what I was doing through this practice.I was reminded of this fact last night as I read the first chapter of the book
Advice On Dying: And Living a Better Life by His Holiness the Dalai Lama and Jeffrey, Ph.D. Hopkins. I had picked up this book because the topic reminded me of a book that Ilchi Lee is currently writing called
Bliss. As I read it, everything reminded me of what I’ve learned from Ilchi Lee. I had a similar experience when I read
The Way of the Peaceful Warrior by Dan Millman and
The Celestine Prophecy series by James Redfield. I kept thinking while I read those books, “Wow, this is what we’re doing!” (”We” meaning Dahn Instructors.)While as an inexperienced American sometimes Dahn Yoga exercises felt a little foreign at first, reading these books that touched my heart made me realize that the Dahn Yoga practice and community is a part of a larger spiritual truth and movement out there that many people are beginning to teach and experience. These books validated my personal experience and, more than any awards or news stories that Dahn Yoga or Brain Education or Ilchi Lee has received (and there are quite a few), legitimized the practice that I have devoted my life to in the hopes of making myself and this world more loving and peaceful.I’m very grateful to this practice that has helped me listen inside myself more clearly and deeply, and that has given me the means to share the wonder and wisdom there with others.
