• Dahn Yoga tip: Focus on Yourself

Without a goal, we have no choice but to endlessly chase after the thoughts of others. We envy those who know more or have more than we do, and we live out our lives completely forgetting our own brains. Such things happen to us often unless we are focused on ourselves. - Dahn Yoga

    Dahn Center Tea

    By Michela | November 27, 2007

One of the details that enhance the Dahn Center experience is the tea. Often shared after class, the DahnĀ Center tea is a blend of barks and berries bought in bulk and steeped in a tea ball. I think it varies among centers, and especially among different parts of the country, but it is always caffeine free. And Dahn members always rave about it. It was also my favorite part of coming to the center when I first joined. Of course, I liked the exercises too! But the tea was always so satisfying thatĀ I would stay after class for it, even though I was usually sleepy and didn’t really want to share my class experience. Sharing your class experience is a part of tea time at the Dahn Center that helps you get in touch with your body more and process any sensations you might have had during the class.

      Hello,
I am currently a member of Dahn Yoga. I have been so for two years now. I have gained much from the teachings and excercise. I have had my doubts about the organization. This past friday, I had an experience that I feel I must tell. After drinking a cup of the tea from the center, I felt intoxicating physical affects. I used to use drugs, and the effects I felt were similar to the affects of taking magic mushrooms or LSD. The rest of the night I felt these affects. I used to work for my center, and make the tea. I know from first hand experience, “the master” I worked for at the time did not drug the tea. THe tea was made of roots and barks and a couple of berries. I do not know exactly what they are. I am afraid they are using natural drugs to keep people coming back. I am not sure, and plan on doing more research. I will post again with my findings.

      Thank you for sharing Yogiseph.

I’m curious. Was that the first time you felt that way after drinking the tea? I’ve actually never heard of that kind of reaction before. Is it possible that the tea could have been interacting with something else you ate or drank? Or could you have been experiencing myung hyun from the training instead of the tea?

These are the ingredients of the tea that we used when I worked in the Dahn Yoga Centers, although it varies slightly by center. We sometimes had a flier available with the ingredients, and occasionally sold the tea with the list of the ingredients.

      Goji berries
      Licorice bark
      Cinnamon bark
      Chinese dates
      Ginger sometimes
and one more bark I need to look up the English name for

Hi, I was wondering about where to buy the tea. I never felt any bad after effects or intoxicating ones after drinking the tea. I have heard about these though and it has me kind of worried. I no longer do Dahn Yoga because there is none near me but I wanted to learn more about these “LSD” effects. Maybe it did nothing to me because I am 12? Ideas anyone?

      Hi Persia,

I don’t know how the LSD effects thing got started, but I’ve never known anyone personally that felt that way.

You can buy the ingredients listed above at most Asian markets or herbal stores. You can put them together in a tea ball and cook it for a while.

If you want more assurance, I would ask someone well-versed in Chinese herbs about these ingredients and their effects. Maybe if you find a store you can ask the staff before you buy them.

      Many thanks,
      Michela

By the way, I never found the English name for the other bark, but we called it something like Dungolae when I worked at a Dahn Yoga Center.
